Topic: Women’s perspective in labor market in the Balkans

Achievening gender equality is one of the key challenges developing countries are facing with and have to tackle in the process of achieving the EU candidate status. Special attention is being given to the women discrimination in the labor market. In this field of promoting women’s right and combating gender inequality, the European Commission is the second largest donor in the world.

Many studies and researches have treated this issue, but the purpose of this project is to reach out for your perspective of women in the labor market.

What are the barriers you feel women need to conquer? What do women still experience regarding applying for a job or achieving career advancement? Share your experiences, challenges and ideas!

Who can apply?

Youth age 18 – 30 (students, recently graduated employed and unemployed students, young professionals) from Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.

Submissions Open: 15th of November 2012

Submissions Close: 31st of December 2012

The Requirements:

Language: English

Length: 700-1000 words in .doc, .docx or .rtf format.

Only one submission per person is allowed.

Send your essays via e-mail to: ldp.kosovo2013@gmail.com with a reference “Essay competition_Last name_Country”.

Organizers will reject any essays that don’t meet these requirements. Proofreading of the selected essays will be provided.

The selection procedure:

All essays will be evaluated by a committee which will chose the best essays based upon the following criteria:

• clearly written,

• content accuracy, creativity and informativeness

• clearly related with the issue of gender equality in the labor market/work place

The prizes:

1st prize: 150€

The best essays will be published in a booklet which will be presented on the conference in Kosovo (March 2013) and distributed in Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo.
